Boing Boing: The award-winning zine, blog and directory of mostly wonderful things. TRIPOUT NOTES — This was one of our primary inspirations for this site. It links around the web to whatever the contributors find interesting, with common topics including futurism, intellectual property, electronic gadgets and general oddities. At one point they even produced a TV channel that was available on Virgin Airlines flights.

Multidisciplinary Association for Psychedelic Studies: Founded in 1986, the Multidisciplinary Association for Psychedelic Studies (MAPS) is a 501(c)(3) non-profit research and educational organization that develops medical, legal, and cultural contexts for people to benefit from the careful uses of psychedelics and marijuana. TRIPOUT NOTES — These folks are primary advocates for the legalization of psychedelic research, getting studies approved such the first controlled study of LSD for psychotherapy since the 1970s.

Erowid: A member-supported organization providing access to reliable, non-judgmental information about psychoactive plants, chemicals, and related issues. We work with academic, medical, and experiential experts to develop and publish new resources, as well as to improve and increase access to already existing resources. We also strive to ensure that these resources are maintained and preserved as a historical record for the future. TRIPOUT NOTES: We highly recommend their Experiences Vault.

The Museum of Ridiculously Interesting Things: For those with a taste for the peculiar, this imaginary virtual museum explores the strange place between art and curiosities. The museum celebrates the odd, the creative, the spooky and the eccentric. The site values the special magic that draws people toward weird and wonderful things, and we believe it can be used to foster more creativity, compassion and curiosity in the world. TRIPOUT NOTES: Bizarre human creativity and behavior stories are a highly recommended antidote to boredom.

PsychonautWiki (PW): A community-driven online encyclopedia that is striving to formally document the field of psychonautics in a comprehensive and scientifically-grounded manner. Documentation includes an extensive collection of organized content regarding the scientific research, phenomenology, and harm reduction practices relevant to psychoactive substance use (with a primary focus on hallucinogens) and other methods of exploring consciousness such as meditation, sensory deprivation, and lucid dreaming. TRIPOUT NOTES: The Tutorial Index is a good educational starting place if you are interested in trying something new.
